What we assumed
  • Estimated paycheck based on annualized tax liability, not employer payroll withholding.
  • Annual tax is divided across 26 pay periods.
  • This estimate uses tax year 2026.
  • Federal filing status: Single.
  • Federal income tax uses the IRS standard deduction of $16,100.00. Itemized deductions are not used.
  • Federal tax credits, capital gains, self-employment tax and AMT are not included. State exemption credits are included where this snapshot carries them.

  • Employer benefits and pre-tax payroll deductions are not included.
  • This is an estimate, not a tax return or employer withholding notice.
  • Federal source: IRS Revenue Procedure for tax year 2026.
  • Oregon tax uses Oregon Department of Revenue rules. Schedule year 2025. State-specific credits and most subtractions are not modeled.
  • This state levies no local income tax on wages, so nothing is omitted on that account.
  • Oregon allows federal income tax to be deducted from state taxable income; $4,660.01 was deducted here.
  • Oregon gives an exemption as a credit against tax rather than a deduction from income; $256.00 was applied.

How Oregon taxes a paycheck

Oregon taxes wages in brackets, 4.75% to 9.9% for a single filer. Each rate applies only to the part of taxable income inside its bracket.

A single filer subtracts a $2,835 standard deduction before the state rate applies.

Up to $4,4004.75%Up to $8,800

$11,100 to $125,0008.75%$22,200 to $250,000
Over $125,0009.9%Over $250,000

Federal income tax uses the IRS 2026 brackets and standard deduction. Social Security is 6.2% of pay up to $184,500 a year and Medicare is 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000.

What the Oregon figure includes

  • Oregon taxes taxable income at 4.75%, 6.75%, 8.75% and 9.9% for tax year 2025 (2025 Form OR-40 instructions, tax rate charts and tax tables; ORS 316.037).
  • Standard deduction for 2025 is $2,835 single or married filing separately, $5,670 married filing jointly, $4,560 head of household.
  • Oregon subtracts federal income tax from state taxable income, capped at $8,500 ($4,250 married filing separately). That cap falls in five steps to nothing between $125,000 and $145,000 of adjusted gross income, and between $250,000 and $290,000 on a joint return.
  • The exemption credit is $256 a person against tax, and is not allowed at all above $100,000 of adjusted gross income single or married filing separately, or $200,000 for other filers.
  • Oregon publishes its tax tables and its rate charts with a dollar of disagreement at $50,000 for joint filers. The chart is used from $50,000 upward because that is what the state tells those filers to use.
  • The federal subtraction here uses federal income tax after credits as this engine computes it, which is the same figure for a wage-only filer. The kicker credit, the political contribution credit and Oregon local transit taxes are not modeled.

Oregon paycheck questions

How much is taken out of a paycheck in Oregon?

On the Oregon median wage of $57,000 (BLS, May 2025), paid every two weeks, about $491.78 of a $2,192.31 paycheck goes to tax: $179.23 federal income tax, $167.71 Social Security and Medicare, and $144.83 Oregon income tax. That leaves $1,700.53.

This assumes a single filer with the standard deduction and no pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) or health premiums, which would lower both the tax and the check.

Does Oregon have a state income tax?

Yes. Oregon taxes wages in brackets, 4.75% to 9.9% for a single filer. Each rate applies only to the part of taxable income inside its bracket. The rules come from Oregon Department of Revenue.

What is the Oregon income tax rate for 2026?

For a single filer the rates run 4.75% to 9.9%, using the 2025 schedule, the latest Oregon Department of Revenue had published when these figures were checked. The bracket table on this page shows where each rate starts.

How much is $1,000 a week after taxes in Oregon?

About $780.41 a week, or $40,581 a year, for a single filer with the standard deduction in 2026. Federal income tax takes about $78.08 a week and Social Security and Medicare $76.50; Oregon income tax about $65.02.

Why is my real paycheck different from this estimate?

Employers withhold with the IRS percentage method and your W-4, not with an annual estimate split into pay periods. Pre-tax deductions such as a 401(k), health insurance or an HSA lower your taxable pay, and bonuses are often withheld at a flat supplemental rate. Over a full year the two should come close; a single check can differ.
