What we assumed
  • Estimated paycheck based on annualized tax liability, not employer payroll withholding.
  • Annual tax is divided across 26 pay periods.
  • This estimate uses tax year 2026.
  • Federal filing status: Single.
  • Federal income tax uses the IRS standard deduction of $16,100.00. Itemized deductions are not used.
  • Federal tax credits, capital gains, self-employment tax and AMT are not included. State exemption credits are included where this snapshot carries them.
  • What a dependent is worth depends entirely on the state, and in several it is worth nothing. The dependents field says so beneath itself when that is the case.
  • Employer benefits and pre-tax payroll deductions are not included.
  • This is an estimate, not a tax return or employer withholding notice.
  • Federal source: IRS Revenue Procedure for tax year 2026.
  • Arkansas tax uses Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration rules. Schedule year 2025. State-specific credits and most subtractions are not modeled.
  • This state levies no local income tax on wages, so nothing is omitted on that account.
  • Arkansas gives an exemption as a credit against tax rather than a deduction from income; $29.00 was applied.

How Arkansas taxes a paycheck

Arkansas taxes wages in brackets, 2% to 3.9% for a single filer. Each rate applies only to the part of taxable income inside its bracket.

A single filer subtracts a $2,470 standard deduction before the state rate applies.

Federal income tax uses the IRS 2026 brackets and standard deduction. Social Security is 6.2% of pay up to $184,500 a year and Medicare is 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000.

What the Arkansas figure includes

  • Arkansas taxes net taxable income at 0%, 2%, 3%, 3.4% and 3.9% for tax year 2025 (2025 Arkansas Indexed Tax Brackets; Act 1 of the Second Extraordinary Session of 2024).
  • The department publishes the schedule as a rate times income less an adjustment. This row carries those adjustments as the tax owed at each band floor, so it reproduces the published formula rather than approximating it.
  • Standard deduction for 2025 is $2,470, or $4,940 on a joint return. Each personal tax credit is $29 against tax: one for the taxpayer, one for a spouse filing jointly, and one more for head of household.
  • Below $17,500 single, $25,300 head of household and $29,000 filing jointly, a qualifying filer uses the Low Income Tax Table instead, which is modeled here. Under that table a single filer owes nothing up to $14,643 of income, and a couple filing jointly nothing up to $24,695.
  • Above $94,700 Arkansas takes its bracket adjustment back $10 at a time for every $100 of income, until it settles at $89.30. Those bands are carried as published; they raise tax by up to about $330 across that stretch.
  • The published schedule does not quite meet itself at $100,000: continuing the band below gives $3,810.70 where the state states $3,809 plus 3.9% of the excess. The state’s figure is used and the $1.70 step is its own.
  • Arkansas rounds its own tables to the midpoint of $100 income bands, so its printed figure can differ from this by up to about two dollars.
  • The additional credit for net income up to $27,600, the child care credit and itemized deductions are not modeled. The starting point is gross wages.

Arkansas paycheck questions

How much is taken out of a paycheck in Arkansas?

On the Arkansas median wage of $43,630 (BLS, May 2025), paid every two weeks, about $290.37 of a $1,678.08 paycheck goes to tax: $117.52 federal income tax, $128.37 Social Security and Medicare, and $44.47 Arkansas income tax. That leaves $1,387.71.

This assumes a single filer with the standard deduction and no pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) or health premiums, which would lower both the tax and the check.

Does Arkansas have a state income tax?

Yes. Arkansas taxes wages in brackets, 2% to 3.9% for a single filer. Each rate applies only to the part of taxable income inside its bracket. The rules come from Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.

What is the Arkansas income tax rate for 2026?

For a single filer the rates run 2% to 3.9%, using the 2025 schedule, the latest Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration had published when these figures were checked. The bracket table on this page shows where each rate starts.

How much is $1,000 a week after taxes in Arkansas?

About $816.91 a week, or $42,479 a year, for a single filer with the standard deduction in 2026. Federal income tax takes about $78.08 a week and Social Security and Medicare $76.50; Arkansas income tax about $28.52.

Why is my real paycheck different from this estimate?

Employers withhold with the IRS percentage method and your W-4, not with an annual estimate split into pay periods. Pre-tax deductions such as a 401(k), health insurance or an HSA lower your taxable pay, and bonuses are often withheld at a flat supplemental rate. Over a full year the two should come close; a single check can differ.
