Supuestos del cálculo
  • Federal income tax only, for tax year 2026. Social Security, Medicare and state income tax are not included.
  • The $16,100.00 standard deduction for Single is applied. Itemised deductions are not modeled.
  • Your bracket is the rate charged on your last dollar of taxable income. Every dollar below it is charged at the lower rates shown, which is why the tax is far less than the bracket times your income.
  • Income exactly at a threshold sits in the lower band. Crossing into a higher bracket never lowers take-home pay, because only the amount above the threshold takes the higher rate.
  • Credits, other income, capital gains and the alternative minimum tax are not modeled.

Ingreso bruto vs. ingreso imponible (Taxable income)

No, nunca.

Tramo impositivo (Tax bracket)
Tasa marginal (Marginal rate)
Ingreso imponible (Taxable income)

  • A bracket is a rate on a slice. Taxable income is cut into bands and each band is charged at its own rate: the first $12,400 for a single filer at 10%, and so on up to 37%. Your bracket is the rate on the final slice. Nothing below it is charged at that rate, which is the whole reason the tax owed is far less than the bracket times your income.
  • Before or after the deduction. Both readings of "income" are common and they land in different brackets, so the page asks which one you mean rather than guessing. Enter pay before deductions and the $16,100 single standard deduction comes off first; enter taxable income (line 15 of Form 1040) and it is used as given.
  • Income exactly on a threshold. A figure that lands exactly on a band edge sits in the lower band. The dollar at the boundary is charged at the lower rate, so reporting the higher bracket would name a rate that is not charging anything yet.
  • What is left out. Federal income tax only. Social Security, Medicare, state and local income taxes are not included, and neither are credits, capital gains rates, the alternative minimum tax or itemised deductions.
