Cómo lo calculamos
  1. 1 qualifying child × $2,200.00$2,200.00
  2. Nonrefundable creditLimited by $5,000.00 of tax before this credit$2,200.00
  3. Additional child tax creditCapped at $1,700.00 per child and 15% of earned income over $2,500.00$0.00
Supuestos del cálculo
  • Tax year 2026. The $2,200.00 maximum and $1,700.00 refundable cap are from Revenue Procedure 2025-32 §4.05.
  • The MAGI phase-out, $500.00 credit for other dependents, and additional child tax credit earned-income worksheet are from the 2026 Schedule 8812 draft. That form is marked DRAFT—NOT FOR FILING.
  • A qualifying child for this credit is under 17 with a Social Security number. This page takes the count you enter as given and does not test the other Schedule 8812 rules.
  • Modified AGI is treated as the figure you enter. Puerto Rico exclusions, Form 2555, and Form 4563 additions are not applied; if those apply, MAGI is higher and this credit is overstated.
  • Form 2555 filers cannot take the additional child tax credit. That bar is not applied here.
  • For three or more qualifying children, Part II-B of Schedule 8812 can raise the additional child tax credit using withheld Social Security and Medicare. That worksheet is not modeled, so the refundable amount can be too low for those filers.
  • This is not a filed return and not tax advice.

Reducción por ingresos (Phase-out)

  • A credit per child, then a phase-out. Each qualifying child under 17 is $2,200. Other dependents are $500 and that piece is not refundable. Combined MAGI above $400,000 on a joint return, or $200,000 otherwise, reduces the total by 5% of the excess rounded up to the next $1,000.
  • What can be refunded. Tax limits the nonrefundable amount. Unused child tax credit can come back as the additional child tax credit, capped at $1,700 per child and at 15% of earned income over $2,500.
  • What is left out. Part II-B of Schedule 8812 can raise the additional child tax credit for some filers with three or more children by counting withheld Social Security and Medicare. Form 2555 filers cannot take the additional credit. Neither rule is applied here.
